Fort Lancaster Historic Site Fort Lancaster Historic Site
Fort Lancaster was established August 20, 1855, to guard the San Antonio-El Paso Road and protect movement of supplies and immigrants from Indian hostilities. Fort Lancaster State Historic Site, 81.6 total acres located west of Ozona in Crockett County, was acquired April 16, 1968, by deed from Crockett County and private owners. In 1975, The site offers exhibits on history, natural history, and archaeology; nature study on a nature trail; historic ruins; and picnicking.

Fort Duncan Museum
On November 14, 1849, the post was named Fort Duncan, after James Duncan, a hero of the Mexican War. Federal troops reoccupied Fort Duncan on March 23, 1868. In 1870 Seminole Indians were attached to the command as guides. The post was abandoned in 1883, when the government could not secure its purchase.
